Miscellaneous
I wanted to do a brief update of some of the things that have taken place in our lives recently.
These pictures are from last weekend. My brother and sister-in-law went camping at San Simeon, which is just a short distance from us here in SLO. We were able to spend some time with them Saturday morning and afternoon, and had a great time! Here are a few pictures.
I FINALLY started school again! It seemed like it would never happen, but atlas! Classes seem to be good, but this little aggie is defiantly going out of her comfort zone taking a romanticism-modernism literature class, as well as an architecture class. I think it will be interesting (and I'm sure challenging) but I prefer sticking with my poultry class. :)
During this first week of school, I had TERRIBLE luck! It all began with flat tires on my bike. Since Jay had the car at work, the only option I had to get to school on time was to run. Let me also mention that it was the first day for these classes, so if I missed them I would be dropped! Consequently, I ran down Foothill with my backpack on, sweating profusely while gasping for air. Talk about feeling like a dork! On Friday, I lost my ID card on the bus on my way home for work. (I use my CP ID card to ride the bus for free.) 20 minutes later when I had to catch the bus again to go back to school, I realized that I had lost it. I didn't have a dollar to pay the regular fare, so once again I was stuck! (Reminder that Jay takes the car and my bike tire was flat) Now it's Saturday. I took Jay to work bright and early at 5 am, came back home, and left again at 6:30 only realizing that I had locked myself out. My keys were stuck in our apartment, and I was on the front porch. I sat outside in the foggy cold for close to 3 hours on my Saturday morning. It sucked.
The Mattice famliy said goodbye to racing. Last night was the official last night of racing. Now that Jay is married, and Russell will be going on a mission soon, it was a good time to quit at least for now. I wasn't able to go watch my hubby and brother-in-law on their last night since it was the General Relief Society Broadcast (which was AWESOME by the way!) but I heard it was a great night, and both drivers did very good. It's bitter sweet. We've had a great time doing this with Jay's immediate and extended family. It's been a good bonding experience. However, it will be nice to have a free Saturday afternoon and evening once again.
We also found out some terrible news. Jay's uncle, Gary, has bone cancer. Earlier this Spring he spent a month at Stanford while he was being treated with chemotherapy. It was supposed to buy him another 2-3 years, but it only lasted 4 months. He found out that the cancer is back, and worse than ever. He is in constant pain. Since the cancer is inside of his bones, his body aches everywhere. Also, he is always fatigued. There's nothing really left that the doctors can do since his body didn't respond to the chemo. We're planning a big 50th birthday party for him in November, and pray that he makes it until then. Jay's poor Grandma is a wreck as both her sister and her son are quickly dying of cancer. If possible, remember them in your prayers. It would be greatly appreciated.

It's official...
I am a MATTICE! Yesterday Jay and I spent the afternoon running errands trying to finally legally change my last name from Kirk to Mattice. I turned in all of my paperwork for Cal Poly, went to the Social Security office, applied for a new drivers license at the DMV, and even re-registered to vote. It only took 9 months, but at least it's finally done.

Me and My 'Dangerous' Face
If you remember a while back, I posted on this incident about the birds at our apartment complex. Recently my brother Ethan sent me this New York Times article. I thought it was very interesting, and I had to laugh at the thought that I must have 'dangerous' face. Not really something a girl wants to hear everyday, but funny nonetheless.
